How disappointing it was, then, to learn of a Senatorial candidate who appears to have done damage to that position.
Here's what is clearly stated on the outside of Senate nomination form packages:
"Please note that you cannot start to collect signatures until the Senate Nominee Selection Proclamation has been issued."
Fairly straight forward. If you are running for Senate, you cannot start getting people to sign your nomination papers until the provincial writ is dropped.
Now look at the Twitter thread from Alan Hallman, campaign manager for Progressive Conservative Senate hopeful Scott Tannas (note the date):

When you open the attached photo, you find a nice little shot of the event.
If you look close, you can see the our Solicitor General in the background.
But if you look closer still, at the nomination papers in the picture, you will see this:
There appear to be signatures on Scott Tannas's Senate Nomination papers two days before the writ was dropped.
Is this an error? An oversight?
Or is this yet another example of the P.C.'s not being able to follow the rules?
** Update: I received a response from Elections Alberta on this issue. Their statement follows:
"...When papers submitted, early signatures will be DQ'd. Candidate to be contacted & advised."

If this is left to the people at Elections Alberta to handle I'm afraid there's squat they can do. They neutered themselves when they decided not to do anything about all the illegal donations brought in by the PCs. How can they prosecute or disqualify anyoneor dole out even the smallest amount of discilpline with their record? They have no credibility.
This guy should definitely get the boot. rules are rules, that is of course unless your part of the governmening party.
