Germany Awakens, Canada Slumbers

German Chancellor Angela Merkel is right: multiculturalism doesn't work.

In fact, it is evident that the policy has failed miserably wherever it has been attempted in the Western world - including Canada.

More and more European nations are waking to this reality.

Pierre Trudeau's legacy of trying to create a society where people from all parts of the world could come to Canada and keep own culture has proven a mirage.

The billions spent on multiculturalism instead of assimilation has resulted in a nation where no real, single 'Canadian culture' exists.  Instead, we see thousands of immigrants living off of the government teat, porous borders, lax immigration standards, and the creation of what can only be described as ethnic ghettos.

Observe Calgary's northeast, the Millwoods district in Edmonton, and sections of other major Canadian cities and you will see proof.

While the concept of multiculturalism was flawed from the start, since 9/11 it has become crystal clear that it could also be dangerous.

The main issue is definition. Being against multiculturalism does not make one against immigration, nor does it make one 'racist'.

Immigration is not only a positive, it is necessary for economic purposes.  As long as Canada's birthrate continues to lag, the nation will need it.

The problem exists from people not understanding what multiculturalism actually is.

In a recent Peter Mansbridge interview on the C.B.C., newly elected Calgary mayor Naheed Nenshi invited Chancellor Merkel to visit his city to see the benefits of multiculturalism in action.

Putting aside the fact that the entire basis of the interview was itself drenched in racist sentiment - would the national broadcaster have been so quick to interview non-Muslim mayoral candidates Barb Higgins or Ric McIver had either of them won? - the truth is Nenshi's victory had nothing to do with Canada's multicultural policies.

At least, it shouldn't have.

Naive comments by excited voters - "...Canada's most conservative city has a Muslim mayor. That'll end those 'redneck' catcalls!" - shows the lack of understanding.

It also shows racism.  If voters cast their ballots for Nenshi because he is a Muslim and not because of his vision for the city, then they cast their votes on the basis of prejudice.

Many Americans did the same when they elected Barack Obama not because they shared his penchant for socialism and low opinion of the Constitution, but because he is Black.

Nenshi's victory made headlines not because he was the best choice with the best platform.  He made news because he is a Muslim. (Calling it 'reverse racism' is erroneous.  Reverse implies opposite, as in 'not racist'.)

Could he have won if Canada had a 'melting pot' society instead of decades of multiculturalism?  Of course he could have.

Where multiculturalism enters the mix isn't in his candidacy, but it could be in how he does his job.  As mayor of Calgary, he must govern according to Canadian tradition, not his own.

Bill O'Reilly Makes Joy Behar's Head Explode

Fox's Bill O'Reilly sat in with the Leftard Breakfast Club (also known as The View) Thursday morning. When the topic of the Ground Zero 9/11 Victory mosque was raised, O'Reilly dared to speak for the majority of Americans and voice his opposition.

Kudos to O'Reilly for going on to boldly speak the truth: the mosque should not be at that location as it would be show great insensitivity because, as he put it, "...Muslims killed us on 9/11."

I've never seen two heads explode simultaneously - until that moment.

The only thing better than watching Bill verbally slap a few far-left liberals? Being witness to the complete and total meltdown by radical leftwing mouthpiece Joy Behar.

Taking a Spin Around Topicville

Taking a spin around Topicville...

Caught a few minutes of Denis Leary on the Joy Behar show last night.  Even watching my favorite comedian being interviewed didn't stop the slight nausea induced by having to listen to Behar.  As is typical from this libtard joke of a t.v. host, she bashed the Republicans for '...pontificating' Ronald Reagan.  Do I even need to mention the name John Kennedy?  Liberals have long placed the adulterous, Vietnam War-starting, son-of-a-bootlegger slimeball of a president on a pedestal.  The fact that Behar has her own show is proof enough that we have too many channels and not enough talent.

More political-correctness run amok: I have many gay friends and have spent my share of time in their communities, so this isn't borne of any prejudice or bigotry. When I heard that the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) was on fire over the upcoming Ron Howard film 'The Dilemma' because of Vince Vaughn's line "Ladies and gentlemen, electric cars... are gay", I shook my head.  THIS is worthy of outrage?  Grab a sense of humor, people.  I expect the enviroNazi crowd will protest next.  The line bashes electric cars, after all...

Remember when NASA was about exploring space?  Not under Obama's watch.  Now, they send morons to other countries to tell us how to do business.  James Hansen, the head of one of NASA's labs, is trying to prevent a French oilsands project in Canada.  Funny how he isn't yapping at his own country's massive coal industry. Or China's emissions.  Or India's.  Wonder why America hasn't landed on Mars yet?

Election day is fast approaching in the U.S. and the experts agree that the Republicans stand to make huge gains.  In reality, it is an unofficial referendum on Obama's presidency, which has seen a nose-dive in poll numbers.  Americans just do not want socialism, which is where Obamalama is taking them.  After the smoke clears, the GOP's next task will be to find a worthy candidate to challenge for the White House.  Mitt Romney and Sarah Palin are often suggested and while I admire both individuals, I have to think there is someone in the ranks who would appeal to a broader section of voters.  By 2012, Obama's damage will be such that the American people will be screaming for an alternative.  The question is, who?

The Religion of Pieces: Islamist Samir Khan, formally of North Carolina who now calls Yemen home, has launched a propaganda magazine called 'Inspire'.  His latest article entitled "I Am Proud To Be a Traitor to America” details his pride in turning his back on the West.  In it, Khan states: "I am a traitor to America because my religion requires me to be. We pledge to wage jihad for the rest of our lives until either we implant Islam all over the world or meet our Lord as bearers of Islam."  How anyone could read these words and refuse to acknowledge what Islam is really all about staggers the imagination.  Khan was known for his radical views before he even left the United States.  How did the FBI let this homeland terrorist sympathizer get away?  After 9/11 there is absolutely no excuse for America's intelligence agencies to be asleep at the switch.

C.B.C. Does Something Right - Shock!

From the 'I never thought I'd say this' file: the latest move by the C.B.C., Canada's national embarrassment network, announced this week they were pulling the plug on their online broadcasts of Hockey Night In Canada in the Punjabi language.

Yes, they did show hockey games on their website in Punjabi.

For two years the C.B.C. had made available the Saturday night staple in the country's fourth-most spoken language.

While this will not have any impact on the billion dollars of funding MotherCorp receives annually, it is good news for those of us who have long complained of diversity run amok.

The C.B.C. blames low ratings for the cut.  Of course, the expected whining has already started.

As reported in the Calgary Sun, some members of the Indian community are lamenting the loss of the service.

Said Calgarian Balwinder Marwaha: “It was almost like a religious thing — on Sunday morning we go to the temple and every Saturday night, we’d watch Hockey Night in Canada in Punjabi.”

"...(It) helped Punjabi-speakers feel closer to their country while staying true to their language."

Staying true to their language?  Give me a break.

Here's an idea Balwinder: to get that 'Canadian' feel, how about watching the games IN ENGLISH?

While I won't put words in Marwaha's mouth, I've spoken with more than enough members of Canada's minority groups to anticipate the 'but not everyone speaks English' diatribe.

That's a common defense on many different subjects regarding Canada's ill-conceived idea of multiculturalism.

I suggest that the solution is in the statement.  Instead of our national institutions trying to be all things to all people - which has resulted in a nation full of communities not able (or willing) to inter-communicate, how about this way-out, radical idea:

Live in Canada?  Learn the language.

Who knows, maybe watching HNIC in English will help some of our immigrants pick up a bit of English.

That would make the C.B.C....helpful.

Who would have thought?

BILL KAUFMANN, Calgary Sun article - http://www.calgarysun.com/sports/hockey/2010/10/06/15605581.html

Random Rants: October 2010

- Another week, another CBC hatchet-job against Alberta.  The government-owned 'broadcaster' (I use that term very loosely) ran another one-sided, biased segment in their quest to paint our oil sands with a negative brush.  The far-left network has a history of bashing the West using misinformation or outright deletion of facts.  The best thing for Canada?  A majority Conservative government with the stones to end the one billion dollars per year in funding this farce of a network receives annually.  Ezra Levant has a great take on the issue here.

- I have been contemplating why the recent warning of possible new al-Qaeda terrorist acts in Europe somehow feels different this time around.  I've figured out the reason: yep, Obama.  Remember when America had a president who, to the detriment of popularity, was proactive and not reactive to terror threats?  Obama's 'it's okay, we can deal with it' strategy in the event of another attack on America does nothing to soothe worried citizens.  Some even wonder where his allegiances truly are.

- With more al-Qaeda attacks on U.S. supply lines in Pakistan, the tensions between the two nations continue to build.  This comes as no surprise, as even back in the early days after 9/11 many knew the leaders of Pakistan could not be trusted.  It is fast becoming a radical Islamic state, and a friend to our enemy.

- Dutch filmmaker/politician Geert Wilders has found himself in front of a judge for 'inciting hate'.  Apparently Wilders equated Islam with Nazism.  (Proof that even the truth can be litigated.) Never mind the obvious issue of trying to legislate an emotion, this could be an interesting case study for all of us.  Already under allegations of showing bias, the presiding judge seems to be taking the default action of defending Islam in a country where Wilders has become popular with citizens who see on a daily basis how their country is capitulating to the Quran and falling under Islamization.

- The Great Public Relations Blunder (aka- the James Cameron oil sands tour) may have gone virtually unnoticed outside our borders, but it has hit Alberta's governing Progressive Conservative government hard. Premier Ed Stelmach's gamble did nothing to erase the negative image our oil sands.  It was obvious that not only would the Hollywood director's stance on the issue remain intact, but that he may have had an agenda at play even before arriving in Alberta.  The end result?  EnviroNazi Cameron looks good to his fellow limousine liberal crowd while Stelmach's image at home sinks even lower.  Frustrating to many Albertans is that there is a more-than-capable group ready to take over in the upstart Wildrose Alliance party.  Just call the election already, Ed.

- Is there anyone in the U.S. more active in shining the light of truth on Islam than Pamela Geller?  Her Atlas Shrugs website has become a vital source of information on the subject, and her work in trying to stop the dreadful Ground Zero Mosque has been more than admirable.

James Cameron's Oilsands Tour: An Analysis

When all was said and done, when the paparazzi with their cameras had left after covering the one of the worst public relations gambles ever taken by a premier of Alberta, the James Cameron oil sands tour ended up being more buzz then progress.

And a complete waste of thousands of taxpayer dollars.

The whole mess could have been easily avoided if Ed Stelmach had shown any kind of real leadership. Our oil sands industry has come under increasing scrutiny by the enviroNazi movement, who has chosen Alberta’s energy sector as their latest cause célèbre.

Using misinformation and lies, the radical left has chosen spread falsehoods to play on the emotions and nativity of the masses who have had years of eco-guilt bashed into them.

James Cameron tours the oil sands

Facts never get in the way of a leftwing movement.

So it should have come as no surprise when Cameron blurted out his comments, calling the oil sands a ‘black eye’ for Canada. At least he later admitted his complete ignorance on the subject.

That’s when Stelmach should have either done nothing – Cameron’s confession effectively killed his previous criticism – or at least should have brought the hammer down.

Issuing Cameron an invitation for a tour was a mistake of the highest self-inflicted kind. Either Stelmach was trying to call a bluff (and attempt to show Albertans that, contrary to popular belief, he did in fact have balls), or he really did think that he would be able to change the mind of a Hollywood liberal who has a long pro-environmentalism history.

One can’t help but ponder how Ralph Klein would have handled the situation.

Premier Ed Stelmach

It should have been obvious to Ed Stelmach that there was an agenda at play. The fact that Cameron’s first meeting was with Native leaders who have long complained about alleged water pollution caused by the oil sands is proof enough.

When it was reported soon after that Cameron had pledged to ‘support’ Native lawsuits against the Alberta government, before any kind of tour or meeting with actual environmental experts, his true intent was revealed and confirmed.

Luckily, the entire visit was met with a collective yawn outside our borders.

But here in Alberta, most of us – including scores of traditional Progressive Conservative supporters – are asking what Stelmach could have been thinking.

At a time when the jewel of our economy is under increasing fire, Alberta needs real leadership. It is imperative that we have a government which will use effective, proactive measures to counter the negative spin.

Grabbing your ankles for a self-involved film maker just isn’t good enough.
