That Loud Popping Sound is Natural

I could have bet my life on it. With only a little sprint to the finish line left in the federal election, polls have shown Canadians to be nothing if not predictable: the leftwing party’s scare tactics aimed at Conservative P.M. Stephen Harper, carried to the masses by the indulging national media, has had at least some effect on the opinions of the sheep…er, voters.

After spending most of the campaign flirting with the possibility of a majority victory, the post-debate numbers had Liberals and NDP closing the gap. The two main reasons this occurred are the economy and alleged cuts to arts and culture funding. Leftwing spin has painted Harper as being lackadaisical, unwilling to protect Canadians and uncaring to their problems.

Only now are the Tory poll numbers starting to slowly recover. (Don’t worry – that loud popping sound that occurs when your head dislodges from your ass is natural.)

Instead of seeing the logic in having someone who specializes in economics steering the ship through the choppy economic waters, Canadians are instead swallowing the garbage being fed by Layton and co. Instead of looking at the accomplishments of the minority Harper government over the past 3 years, often facing strong opposition (when the Liberals bothered to vote), the public does the hook, line, sinker with the ‘he’s cold and doesn’t care about you’ coddle.

Have any of these brainiacs bothered to question how much the socialist economic and environmental plans from Jack Layton’s ‘friend of the family’ NDP platform is going to cost? During a time of unprecedented global economic turmoil, are we actually willing to let our taxes skyrocket to pay for more government programs?

With billions in election promises that will be paid for out of your ever-shrinking wallet, is Jack Layton (or the fumbling maladroit Liberal leader Stephane Dion for that matter) really worth the risk over a Harper plan we already know?

Harper shows a strong comprehension of the issue, displays leadership with a calm and steady hand, and tells the Canadian public the biggest truth of the entire campaign – that panicking will only make the problem worse than it really is, a la ‘self-fulfilling prophecy’.

What do the Canadian people do? Panic, naturally. Fed by the endless ‘sky is falling’ rhetoric from Chicken Layton, the folks on the street don’t seem to notice that the only alternative suggestions from the NDP and Liberals would be the inevitable huge tax increases and more layers of governmental bureaucracy. Read: economic devastation.

All one has to do is look at the history of socialist NDP governments in Canada. Their record of provincial government administrations accomplishments reading like an economic rap sheet, full of massive debts and bleeding deficits, union unrest, increased unemployment, and overall fiscal mismanagement.

NDP Premier-turned-Born Again Liberal Bob Rae’s Ontario took an economic s%#tkicking, and he’s Stephane Dion’s right hand man, for crying out loud. These are the guys we want in control?

As far as the alleged cuts in fed cash to the arts industry, I’d hate to spoil a good sit-in, but spending on Arts and Culture has actually increased during Harper’s time as P.M. It is amusing to see the likes of Margaret Atwood and the Tragically Hip voicing their disapproval of Stephen Harper. No doubt successful and financially comfortable, if they are receiving federal funding then perhaps some cuts should be in order after all.

It’s called priorities, people. We are going blind into an economic abyss, and you’re worried about cuts to arts funding? Noses out of joint because the Prime Minister says most people don’t really care about the arts? He was just being nice. Let me put it more directly: get a job and stop sucking off the collective teat.

The time has come for Canada to wake up (grow up?). The situation is critical, the consequences of a socialist government too severe. As Alberta premier Ed Stelmach put it, a Conservative majority would be the best choice in these times.

Will the rest of Canada figure that out on October 14th?

*Quick sidebar here for the people of Quebec: the Bloc have done nothing for you and won’t once again. The Liberals are still the party of Adscam. Layton is…well, Jack Layton. Only Harper has given you the cherished ‘nation within a nation’ status. He is the only leader who supports strong provincial powers. He is the only real federalist option. Perhaps it’s time to think with your head and not with your heart, no?

I could not agree more; I don't understand why more Canadians just don't wake up to the common sense revolution. I can only hope the divided left ends up canceling their votes out so Harper gets a majority.
