Random Rants: The Need for a Majority (and other Verbal Slaps)

There isn’t anybody alive who would voluntarily trade places with Liberal leader Stephane Dion right now Part I: With the current rollercoaster that is the North American economy, the devastated American housing market and the cooling of it’s Canadian counterpart, and expected drop in future oil prices and probable increase in interest rates, the timing of his proposed Carbon Tax plan known as the Green Shift couldn’t have been worse…….Part II: the current Liberal election campaign under Dion has been such an embarrassment that some Liberal insiders are fearing an implosion along the lines of the infamous Kim Campbell-led Progressive Conservatives of 1993…….Part III: Dion tries to dump the Green Shift mid-campaign, claiming that it ‘was never meant to be an election plank’. Problem is, the rest of the Liberal platform is to be funded by said Green Shift. In other words, they don’t have a platform…….The mud machine continues at full throttle against GOP VP candidate Sarah Palin. Oddly, no matter what may or may not stick, the thought of her in charge is still preferable to Biden, no?.......The reasons to hope for a Conservative majority continue to grow. While there are benefits to minority governments, and the latest (and longest serving) Harper-led Conservative managed to accomplish much more than expected, history shows that Canada benefits from a majority government from time to time. With the economy, the War on Terror, and other history-shaping issues, we should give Harper the go-ahead for a term. He has proven worthy…….That old buzzword ‘unity’ may also be a reason to choose a majority this time. If any of the other parties – leftwing all – hold the balance of power, there will no doubt be an economic attack on the oil industry, disguised as a greenhouse gas reduction plan. That would see the return of a serious Albertan/Western Canadian independence movement…….If I was running for office and the likes of Pam Anderson, Matt Damon, and George Clooney publicly supported me, it would be all the evidence I would need to be convinced I didn’t belong there and would drop out…….The controversy over Harper’s cuts to federal Arts funding is no controversy at all. All it has done is shone a spotlight on the hypocracy that is Canada’s entertainment industry. Millionaire music stars protesting that they aren’t getting as much subsidized (free) money as the used to…….I can’t believe how many Americans are still falling for Obama’s charlatan act. The Europeans, sure. But Americans?…….Obama and McCain have both claimed to have former Sec. of State Henry Kissinger’s approval on how they plan to handle Iran – Obama’s discussion without preconditions, McCain’s stance of negotiating only after preconditions were determined. Kissinger has since come out and confirmed his support for McCain’s plan. More Obama ‘untruths’, more silent media.
