As the Stronach Turns

First she proved that ethics has no place in politics when she traded in her place in the Conservative Party for a cabinet post with the Liberals, now our favorite poor little rich girl has made the news again. Seems that the Belinda Stronach team has come under fire for questionable campaign spending. Elections Canada is investigating Stronach's expenses for both the 2004 and current elections, and this leaves Canadians wondering if perhaps little Belinda wants to buy her way into another victory. Given the number of upset constituents who voted for her in the last election only to have their votes become meaningless, this news comes at a time where Stronach is trying to convince those same voters that she is above board.

If nothing else, Stronach has proven to be a true Liberal after all. I, for one, won't miss her when she is defeated.

You Want This Guy in Charge?

Then: Get rid of the G.S.T.! Now: G.S.T. - good!

Then: Pro-Missile Defense Now: Missile Defense - bad!

Then: "I will solve Western alienation." Now: Western what now?

Then: Pro-U.S. in Iraq Now: Iraq war - bad!

Then: "I will not run a slander campaign." Now: "Stephen Harper will destroy peoples rights!"

Then: Nobody wants a summer election. Now: Nobody wants a winter election.

Then: We'll wait for the Gomery report. Now: We'll wait for the next Gomery report.

Liberal of the Month - December

Was there even any doubt? It isn't often that a PR guy takes the spotlight away from the candidates during an election, but Scott Reid has done just that. First our LOTM gets liquored-up and spouts off by inviting the entire Alberta province to satisfy him orally, now he claims that if the Conservatives childcare plan goes ahead citizens would just spend the government money on beer and popcorn. Faith in the intellegence of Canadians is rarely seen by a Liberal, and it certainly isn't evident here. Often I have watched Mr. Reid weaving his magic, and often I've wondered how someone could out and out lie about facts while debating - without getting called on it. Well, our LOTM's mouth finally caught up with him. The only thing as exciting as waiting to hear what comes out of his mouth next is waiting to see how long he stays employed. Coming during the federal election, this would normally cause great outrage among the public, but this is Canada after all. Some see his comments as cute, some as disturbing. Some Canucks even think he is right. For all that Scott Reid has said (and for the sake of Liberal opponents, continues to say), he wins the title of Liberal of the Month.

An Open Letter to Canadians

Dear fellow Canucks,

As the federal election shifts into second gear, the impression that Albertans are getting is that you would rather keep a dishonest, corrupt government in power than change to a Conservative government. I must admit, this is baffling. The Liberals have proven themselves to be untrustworthy and unethical, and yet the comments coming from you seem to indicate that you want these guys around. I have asked many folks from around the Toronto area about this in hopes of getting a clear understanding of your line of thinking. The responses have all been similar to, "Harper is scary", "The Conservatives will destroy health care", and my personal favorite, "They are just a regional Party."

Upon many hours of pondering, I still can't figure out how you guys could be so wrong about so many things. I defy anyone to prove that a Conservative government would harm Canada's health care system in any way. I challenge any of you to show me how a change of government will do damage to any of the nations institutions. As far as being a regional Party, I say look at the election results over the past 2 - 3 elections and you will see that each Party has, in fact, become regional. The Liberals are nothing without you in Ontario just as the Bloc Quebecois is dead outside of la belle province. The latest issue of childcare raises my eyebrows to new heights, as the Liberal system is similar to that of the old German Nazi regime. Get 'em when they're young, and raise them in the dogma. As a work-from-home father, why would the Liberals want to discriminate against me for wanting to raise my children instead of some stranger in a government-run daycare?

In closing, I state that we in Alberta are there for you. The obvious affliction you have for self-punishment must be difficult, and makes us wonder: If you are saddled with such low self-esteem that you would openly choose to have a bad, oppressive government run your lives, just how bad are you at making other everyday life decisions? Are you stuck in bad relationships at home? Can you be trusted alone with a knife in the house?

Please don't take offense when Alberta finally decides to separate and leave this distructive relationship. It's not you, it's them. Oh, Canada. How we pity you.

Signed,
An Albertan.
